SCYC 2017 has certainly been a bumper year. The blood, sweat and toil invested in completing the extension was a small thing when you saw the meeting room full of children hearing the gospel. The increased size of the meeting room was needed as each week was full to capacity, with an extra dorm needed in weeks two and three to accommodate even more campers. It was great to see children from certain areas in Shetland who have not been before. Our prayer is that they will tell friends and family who will come next year. All told there were 265 campers over the three weeks.
Jeff Rodgers made his debut at the camp and took the meetings in week one, he was a late replacement and did a great job. Brian Anderson from Lerwick took the meetings in week two. Its good to be able to use local speakers when they are not overworked with other camp responsibilities. Finally Graeme Paterson made a welcome return to Shetland after some years away, he was glad to learn lots of new ideas which he can now introduce at TCYC.
There were many leaders and helpers who travelled from across the UK to help us, without their help we could not run the camps and so we are indebted to these young Christians for their sacrifice and hard work. As you can see from the pictures the Lord answered our prayers in great weather with plenty of opportunities to go to the beach and be outside.
The bookshop reported bumper sales of Bibles which is always encouraging, especially from campers who initially were not interested, but as the week progressed decided that they would like their own Bible. Allowing them the chance to purchase (albeit at a discounted price) is a good way to help children appreciate the value of their Bible.
We are so thankful for three great weeks of camp, many children having heard the gospel and so we pray the Lord that He will bless the seed sown. We leave eternity to declare the results.
