We thank the Lord for another encouraging time with the believers in Congobashi. They are newly saved and have many different cultural issues to work through but they have a refreshing thirst for God's word. The majority of our time was spent teaching on the subjects of prayer, the Holy Spirit and Christianity in the home. During the visit in September a young man called Bernard trusted the Lord and it was good to see his progress. I was encouraged when he was asked by the older believers to open one of the meetings for me and he did well.
During the last few weeks there have been a number of challenges and disappointments as a result of believers finding it difficult to break from certain aspects of the culture here which are not compatible with the Word of God. A lot of time has been spent going through 1 Corinthians 7 with elders, individuals and couples. Please pray that the entrance of God's word through these meetings, Bible studies and the literature distributed will bring light and give these believers the strength to stand against the normal customs and patterns of behaviour.
Due to high levels of illiteracy and the learning styles here we have started working on some more graphic based and interactive materials on the local church, the gospel and a Bible panorama. Please pray for this and also for the ongoing translation work which has encountered a few frustrations. In answered prayer the violence up north has settled down again for the time being but the communities affected will take some time to recover.
