After a smooth crossing at the border yesterday I enjoyed a warm welcome from some of the Congolese brethren that I travelled with last year. It was good to see them again and hear something of the work they have been involved in since my last visit. This morning I met a brother called Kazadi for the first time and the two of us travelled to an assembly in Lubumbashi where I preached twice today. The breaking of bread was relatively small and then there was a large turn out for the gospel meeting which is very common.
A wrong understanding of 1 Corinthians 11 causes many believers to be too afraid to break bread in case they "eat and drink unworthily." The verse that "for this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep," is mixed in with beliefs regarding witchcraft and fear keeps the believers from participating. It was a good opportunity to teach on the Lord's supper and to preach the gospel from that passage. There is great joy in bringing the word to these believers. I made contact this evening with a Congolese brother who is involved in some literature work in the city and have arranged to meet him during the week.
